Observation on Teachers

15th of January 2019, Tuesday, was my first class observation in grade 4-A under Ibu Nafisah, their topic was all about the life cycle of animals, but before she discuss the new topic, the teacher reviewed their past lesson which is all about metamorphosis. Surprisingly, they sang a Bahasa children song, I don't know what is the meaning of it, so I ask my buddy and she said that they are reviewing the last topic. I was really amaze on how she create the connection and handle her class because for me it is very interactive, enjoyable and a true evidence of a learner-centered approach.

In the lesson proper, the discussion is not merely rooted in the book, the teacher conducted a group activity dividing the students in five groups and she posted information about the different life cycle of animals namely, butterfly, grasshopper, cockroach, mosquito, and fly in five corners of the classroom. Every group is assigned to one poster and they will move to another after the teacher say the word "pindah" or "berjalan" which means move or proceed. After reading all the posters, each group will present and tell to the class the life cycle of the animals through a song.

It was really observed that the teacher planned the lesson well, her class was very interactive,  she managed the students, and provide the appropriate learning materials. Furthermore, her teaching methods and strategies was  an evidence of a progressivist teacher where she gave learning experiences that are beyond from what is learned in the book.
