The school (SDN Pasar Lama 1) used the 2013 curriculum as the basis for there teaching and learning system as mandated by the government anchored in 1945 Constitution with the enactment  of the law number 20 of 2003 concerning on the National Education System that aims to realize the process of developing the personal qualities of students as the significant factors for the growth of  the state of Indonesia. It also has the vision to empower and equipped Indonesian citizens to have faith and piety to God(Allah), to be noble, healthy, knowledgeable, capable, and creative individuals in order for them to become proactive to respond to the challenges of the ever changing era.

 The principal importance of the curriculum is the change in teaching style. It encourages the teachers to shift from the traditional teacher-centered classroom towards student-centered instruction, this means that teachers must spend less time in lecturing the students. Rather, they must teach them through inquiry. The teachers should facilitate the learning process by asking guided questions that will help the students to discover the content for themselves, and provide equal opportunities to the learners that will help build their critical-thinking and communication skills and become active and engaged students in class.
